Why (I think) Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Will Suck

I'm sure many of you are looking forward to BF3 and think it will be awesome. I'm sure many of you are also console players and did not get the oppurtunity to play Battlefield 2/2142 in their prime. Well I am here to express my OPINION on why Battlefield 3 will be more like Bad Company 3. Of course, no one can know for sure until this October.

First off, I am disappointed to hear that the Commander feature will not be returning from BF2. The Commander feature added a more strategic way of playing and provided a true 'war' feeling.
Another disappointment is the inclusion of only 4 classes. The 6 classes in BF2 forced you to rely on teamwork more than anything. The less classes there are, the stronger each class will be individually. Look at the Bad Company series, there were only 4 classes and that made it easier for more people to disregard teamwork and play as a lone wolf. More classes equals more options and teamwork. BC2 streamlined BF2′s seven classes into just four. Rather than a simplified, four-guys-who-are-kind-of-dece nt-at-multiple-skills, let’s go back to highly focused and defined classes. Have players get a better sense of role and identity, rather than the “I can do this and that” that you feel with BC2. Which brings me to my next point.

BF3 will have 4 man squads. Which is most likely because there are only 4 classes. I am happy to see that Squad Leaders are returning, but with small squads it doesn't seem to make much a difference.

Another addition that made me sad to see was the added game mode, Team Deathmatch. Battlefield is not a game that should have TDM. It defeats the purpose of being a class based objective shooter which is based around teamwork. TDM provides no objective besides running around and killing people in recent Call of Duty fashion. No teamwork there. You might say, "Well there are other game modes, you don't have to play TDM." Very true, yes. But, I fear that this will attract more CoD-players(I'm sure that was DICE's intention), which will corrupt the Battlefield community with 'quickscopers' and 'killwhores'. The day TDM becomes the most played mode in Battlefield is the day that Battlefield dies. Mark my words.

There also seems to be too much focus on the graphics and technical features of the game. Don't get me wrong, the game looks and performs amazing(on PC at least). But 85% of the information I've heard on BF3 in the past few months is about how great the graphics look. I want to hear more about the actual features. Graphics don't make a game people.

As for console players, I feel bad. There will be smaller maps and lower player counts compared to PC. Not to mention that it will be running at 30 frames-per-second on console instead of the smoother 60 FPS. It will also only run at 720p, not 1080.

Don't get me wrong, there are some old features and some new features that I am glad to see included. The tactical reloading is a cool feature and I'm glad to see multiple firing modes returning. As well as Karkland(map), Squad Leaders and Jets returning from BF2.

In closing, I'm just not sold on this game yet. It seems there is too much hype for this game that it is blinding people. I fear it will become too much like Call of Duty. I'm sure the game will be highly praised and be a 'good' game, but will it be a good Battlefield game? I guess we will see what happens in October. Until then, good gaming.
